Virtual Thomas Albright: Albright was a culture and art critic in the San Francisco Bay Area until his death in 1984. He is best known for his great contribution to Bay Area art, the book Art in the San Francisco Bay Area, 1945-1980. His musings on art and artists are timeless…hence his virtual reappearance on this blog.

Obi Kaufmann is a painter and a curator for Zza’s Wine Bar, Manifesto Bicycles Gallery, the 40th Street Art Quest and Sweetart Gallery. He runs Oakland’s Swee(t)art and is always looking for Oakland artists.

Shanna Maurizi is an artist and filmmaker currently living and working in Brooklyn. She started Work Only during the bleak winter of 2009, to keep herself busy and make her own content about whatever crossed her mind. Her photographic work has been exhibited nationally and internationally, and her short films can be found online at perpetualartmachine. She has numerous credits in documentary, television and feature film, and is currently completing her first feature documentary.

Dan Nelson, after 20 years of multifarious creative pursuits, began to call himself an artist, and is considered a pioneer of a new art form called “visceral,” which is rooted in conceptual art but juicily presented. He’s the author of the book All Known Metal Bands. Throughout these two decades he has written poems, essays, reviews, and now—gasp—art criticism.

Julien Poirier is a poet living in Berkeley with his wife and daughter, who was pulled and prodded by his old friend into expanding on recent poems related to art, artwork in museums and what happens when the lights get turned off and no one is looking.
