It has been six years since Messe Schweiz began hosting Art Basel Miami Beach and it has grown to be one of the most important stops on the international art circuit. Since then dozen of satellite fairs have sprung up to accommodate hundreds of galleries, thousands of artists and tens of thousands of viewers. Seemingly everyone of note in the art world from New York, Europe and elsewhere descend on balmy Miami for a week of buying, trading contacts and partying. This year the big drama was, will there be buyers? Anecdotal evidence suggest yes, but at a much more cautious pace. But as most people will tell you, the point of going is making new relationships more than outright sales.
